Spam-Blocking Service Pays Customers

Spam Arrest Shares Substantial Lawsuit Settlement with its Customers
Seattle-based Spam Arrest LLC scored a victory over unwanted-email spam in settling a lawsuit against a mass-marketing firm, and is distributing cash from the settlement to its customers. In many cases, the customers will receive amounts that are much more than they paid for the Spam Arrest service itself. The defendant in the lawsuit also agreed to stop sending unwanted email to Spam Arrest customers.
Dan Cadagan is a Spam Arrest customer. "I couldn't believe that my share was that amount of money," he wrote to Spam Arrest. "I commend Spam Arrest for pursuing the issue and helping to protect me, and my computer, from abusive emails."
Spam Arrest provides a subscription service that protects customers from unwanted commercial email, or spam, by intercepting incoming messages. Spam Arrest requires the sender to agree not to send spam and to prove he or she is human, as opposed to an automated sender. The message is only delivered when the sender complies. Spam Arrest's lawsuit alleged that the defendant agreed not to send spam but did anyway.
"Spam Arrest recognizes that its customers were also victims in this case and should share in this victory over unwanted spam," said Derek Newman of Newman Du Wors, attorney for Spam Arrest. "The Spam Arrest system is 100% effective when not abused. If abuse happens, the company will take action, as it did here, and Spam Arrest will share proceeds with its customers."
Spam Arrest has successfully prevented billions of unwanted spam messages from reaching customer email boxes since 2001.
